Pattern Review: Mini Dollhouse Bunny by Mama Roar Sews

I recently bought and made a pattern to make an adorable miniature bunny for my daughter and thought I’d share my thoughts and some tips I learned along the way. If you’ve ever been curious about making miniature plush toys stay tuned for this pattern review!

About this Pattern

I had been eyeing this pattern for a Dollhouse Bunny for a while and finally went ahead and bought it. I liked that it came with two main options for assembly, as well as three different ear options! My daughter really loves the little Maileg mouse she has so I thought it would be fun to make her a similar-style bunny. Keep in mind that this “dollhouse bunny” makes a 5.5″ doll which is bigger than the standard Maileg mice in case you were hoping that clothes and accessories would be compatible (they won’t be). I especially love that in her “Option 1” for assembly, the arms can swivel which is fun because you can pose the doll and move the arms around.

Tips:

  1. I’ve so far only made this pattern once and for some reason thought it would be good to use a very thick wool-cashmere blend as the fabric. Yes, the fabric is incredibly soft and luxe, but it’s also SUPER thick which makes it very difficult to turn the tiny arms and legs inside out. I would NOT recommend using a thick or fluffy fabric for your first bunny. Cotton or flannel would be much easier to work with.

2. You will need a chopstick and a straw in order to turn the small pieces inside out. A chopstick is also great for gently pushing out the little corners and details since you won’t be able to get your finger in the small pieces. This is also the same technique I use to make my Leggy Bear!

3. I am not good at embroidery or hand sewing so I was a little nervous if I would be able to do a good job with those parts of the pattern. Fortunately, the instructions are very clear and have lots of photos so I was able to figure it out with little trouble. Also, the creator has a lot of helpful videos on Instagram and Youtube in case you get stuck at any part.

Bonus!

Last week, I shared a threepart series about making your first quilt and the quilt I made is something I plan to give my toddler for Christmas this year. I thought it would be so cute to make a matching mini quilt for the little bunny, as well as a tiny pillow too. Needless to say, it turned out even more adorable than I could have expected 😭. I just followed the exact same steps as in my quilt tutorial to make a miniature version for the bunny.

Miniature things are just the cutest!

Final Thoughts

Overall, this was a great pattern and it included very detailed and helpful instructions. While I wouldn’t use a wool-cashmere blend again, I would definitely make this doll again with a thinner fabric that’s easier to work with.
