Since becoming a mom, I’ve really enjoyed making custom clothing for my daughter. I rarely have the time to work on big sewing projects, so easy-to-sew pieces are what I typically look for. Here is a list of my favorite baby patterns and some notes for each one! The best part: each of these patterns are under $10 and can be made in under an hour!
All patterns linked at the end of the post.
Boxy Tee + Bummies
Both of these pieces are super easy to make and they sew up super quickly. Make sure you use fabrics with a lot of stretch, though, so you can easily get baby’s arms and legs into the holes without any trouble.
Sweatshirt
I used the Boxy Tee pattern to make this adorable sweatshirt out of stretchy fleece and a ribbed knit for the neckline. I also ironed on a patch to make it even cuter 🙂
Bike Shorts
These shorts are very easy to make and would be a good first sewing project for beginners. Just make sure you use a stretchy fabric so the shorts fit comfortably on your baby.
Pinafore Jumpsuit
I made this jumpsuit for my daughter to wear on her 1st birthday and she looked absolutely adorable! I made the version with shoulder buttons and no crotch snaps for simplicity and it turned out great. I’d love to make another version for her that’s extra slouchy and comfy for her to play in.
Harem Pants
I’ve made several pairs of these pants for my daughter and they’re so comfy on her belly and legs. Since there isn’t a seam down the front or back, they’re more comfortable to wear as she’s sitting down too. Stretchy fleece and jersey fabrics work really well with this pattern.
Quilted Jacket
This pattern is the most complicated out of the bunch, but it’s still good for a confident beginner. I used patterned flannel for the shell, a layer of thin batting, and cotton for the lining. Instead of using snaps to close the jacket, I decided to use ties instead which look so cute tied into bows!
The pattern also suggests quilting your shell, which I decided not to do since the shell fabric was already pretty busy. It’s a little big on her right now so we’ll get more mileage out of it as she grows:)
