Whether you’re looking for a gift idea for a birthday, for a new parent, or just for the holiday season, these 5 handmade gifts are perfect for anyone on your list. Most of these can also be made in under 30 minutes with only a yard of fabric, so they’re fantastic for beginners!
1. Handmade potholders/trivets
This is a super easy project that you can make in under 30 minutes with scrap fabric! I’ve made a bunch of these and there are so many ways you can customize them to put your personal stamp on such a handy, everyday item. Give these DIY potholders as thoughtful gifts, or custom-make some to perfectly match your home.
2. Easy Infinity Scarf
If you are brand new to sewing, this is an excellent project for you! If you have just 30 minutes and one yard of fabric, you can make this super easy infinity scarf for yourself or for a friend. Once you’ve made one, I guarantee that you’ll want to make more.
3. Handmade heating pad
This is such an easy gift that bring so much comfort and coziness. With under one yard of fabric and 30 minutes, you can make this adorable handmade heating pad to help soothe shoulders, heads, sore muscles, and cramps. You can also customize your heating pad by choosing your filling, scents, and fabric!
4. Plush bear + bunny (with free pattern!)
Earlier this year, I released two free patterns to make your very own plush bear and bunny. They’re good projects for beginners and make excellent gifts for kids and babies. Check out the tutorials for lots of tips and to access the free patterns!

5. Quilted baby blanket
This project is slightly more advanced than the others on the list, but still very approachable. I would say that for a brand new sewist, you should expect to spend ~4 hours making this project so you could knock it out in a day or over a weekend. I’ve given several of these as gifts to new parents; you can never have enough baby blankets!
